KES Old Boy Kaminski grabs all-Nicklaus recognition!

King Edward VII School Old Boy Rupert Kaminski, Class of 2014, is honoured as as one of the nations finest golfers 2015/2016.

Kaminski from national champion Oklahoma City University landed on the Golf Coaches Association of America’s all-Nicklaus team.

Kaminski, a freshman from Johannesburg, South Africa, garnered a spot among the 24 all-Nicklaus performers from NCAA Divisions I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA recognized for their outstanding play during the 2015-16 collegiate season.

This season, Kaminski topped the NAIA with a 71.40 scoring average in 30 rounds while taking Nicklaus award finalist honors. Kaminski took individual titles in The Mid-South on Sept. 8-9 in Newton, Kan., the Hardscrabble Invitational on April 11-12 in Fort Smith, Ark., and the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships on April 18-19 in Fort Worth, Texas. He placed within the top 10 in eight events and became SAC freshman of the year. He buried 114 birdies and four eagles this season.

Kaminski drew recognition as a first-team all-American from the NAIA and the GCAA, all-NAIA Central Region, all-tournament in the NAIA Championships, all-SAC, SAC freshman of the year, two NAIA golfer of the week nods and two league golfer of the week awards. Kaminski’s winning score in the SAC Championships of 21-under-par 67-63-65–195 bettered the NCAA men’s golf championships record of 20-under-par 67-66-63–196 shot by Charles Howell III in 2000.

The all-Nicklaus Team was created in 2008, and is not only named for history’s greatest player but also a long-time supporter of collegiate and amateur golf. Jack Nicklaus, a Big Ten and NCAA Champion at The Ohio State University, helped inspire and create the Jack Nicklaus Award in 1988 and it is now presented to the National Player of the year.

Reunion Day a Red celebration of Excellence.

Saturday, 4 June
Celebration of Excellence at King Edward VII School

Reunion Day 2016 was a superb day of friendship, sporting excellence and the re-connection of our King Edward Old Boys, friends and family.

Derby Day lived up to all expectations between KES and St John’s and especially the main game between the 1st XV was a spectacle of running rugby from the Red Machine. REDS showed great class and finished the last home game in style, with a 59-10 victory over the ‘old rivals’, St John’s College. Our 1st XI Hockey also fought a tough battle against a very strong St John’s outfit. KES held onto a 1-0 win, rewarding the Red Army who came out in numbers to support our boys.

Earlier in the morning from 09h00- 11h00, our Annual Polar Bear Swim took place at the King Edward pool. There was a good amount of support by some very ‘brave’ Old Boys, parents and boys. The pool temp was a mere 11 degrees celius! It was yet another wonderful event showing the ‘Spirit of King Edward’ by it’s community. Close to R8500-00 was raised towards the Aquatics Centre Project.

Red Thanks to ALL who came out to support this event!

Thank you to ALL of our Red Army who came out to support, help, braai, serve, and cheer on our School at our last home of 2016. The Spirit of KES is simply the best. Pride, Passion and Tradition the hallmarks of a supporting and superb community. We salute you ‘one and all’.

WE ARE RED AND PROUDLY AN EDWARDIAN.

TILL 2017… GO SCHOOL.
