Call to Old Boys – Join our Alumnet!

A SCHOOL LIKE NO OTHER – UNPARALLELED BROTHERHOOD BY DERRON VAN EEDEN

I am privileged to have been working at this great School since before it`s Centenary celebration, and by implication therefore, have crossed paths with so many of you Old Boys, from so many Matric groups and reunions. The friendships I have forged have resulted in me being invited to a myriad of celebratory functions and events, including inter alia – Old Boy weddings, 21st birthday parties, children Christenings, birthday parties, and of course special milestone birthdays. Sadly, but inevitably, also funerals, these to celebrate the lives of passing `Sons of this Place`. I am by default therefore, an honorary `Old Boy`. My story below speaks to the extraordinary place that is `King Edward VII School`.

I attended an Old Boy’s 60th birthday party on this past Saturday evening, and his three sons’ (all KES Old Boys) and daughter (not an Old Girl) spoke about their Dad.
Each of them referred to `OUR` or `My Dad’s beloved School! ` His daughter said obviously she could not attend King Edward VII School, and the only way her Dad could come to terms with that, was that she had to wear RED every Saturday or whenever she went to the School, and even when she compulsorily went on every tour and even to Argentina when the Reds toured.

When the Birthday Boy spoke, he inevitably referred to his School, and spoke so highly of King Edward.

Every event that I have attended the School is the common denominator, always mentioned, and in these times where we explore all opportunities to reinforce the Old Boy spirit, I just thought that I would remind you all how fortunate you are to have attended such a great School that is envied, if not revered, by so many outside people who rub shoulders with the unique King Edward family.

In my own endeavour to build the Red Army resources, I have set myself a target of achieving a membership of 1000 memberships for the `Old Boy Association`. Our membership currently sits at 733, so my appeal to those of you who are not members, is to please help me in attaining this objective.  I take this opportunity to emphasise the following:
• All membership fees for Association accrue for school related benefit only
• This includes funding bursaries for talented learners who may otherwise not be able to attend our great School
• It also assists the School in funding projects to improve facilities
• Membership is inexpensive, and can be your gesture in supporting that which gave you so much in life skills

I challenge you to help me reach the magic 1000 number.
